My husband, 2 sons (then aged 6 and 10) and I stayed at the Hideaway resort for 8 nights in May 2007. This was our second stay, the first being 12 nights in December 05/January 06.
Both times were terrific. The staff were friendly, obliging and just generally great. During our first stay our son celebrated his 9th birthday and I organised a cake through reception with 24 hours notice. At the appointed time we assembled in the dining room and to our pleasant surprise 5 or 6 staff members came out singing 'happy birthday' as they brought the cake out. It also tasted delicious.
We were at the resort on Christmas Day 2005 and can't praise the staff enough for the wonderful effort they put in. The morning started at 8.30am when we were serenaded by carollers (staff members?) walking through the gardens singing carols. We were lazing around the pool at luchtime when Santa arrived on horseback down the beach! He then proceeded to walk around the pool area giving out iceblocks. "Santa" must have been boiling hot in that outfit but everyone loved it.
For dinner that night we partook in the buffett. It was wonderful - more food than I have ever seen in my life. And the room was so beautifully decorated. Top marks for that.
We returned for a second visit in May 2007, during a very unusual downturn in tourism in Fiji due to a coup that had happened a few months before. Most hotels were only at about 1/3 of their usual occupancy rate for that time of year, but Hideaway seemed to be pretty full, so I guess that says something.
Hideaway is the sort of place where you can do as much or as little as you like. As there are no TVs in the rooms it's possible to completely swicth off and completely relax. There is a movie shown most nights in the conference room, straight after the kids movie, which starts at about 6pm. For the more energetic there is water aerobics in the pool daily at 11am.
My kids loved the kids club activities, which included coconut painting, volleyball, marine exploration, ice cream eating competitions and visits to local villages. They also enjoyed just spending time in the pool, particularly on the waterslide.
On our first visit we stayed in a frangipani bure, which was spacious and contained 1 double (or queen?) bed and 2 single beds. For our second visit we booked the same style of room but were unexpectedly upgraded for free to an ocean view room upon check in. It was fabulous - a huge queen (or king?) bed, a single bed, a couch, writing table and heaps of room. Both rooms had big bathrooms, with the ocean view room having a huge shower. The rooms also contained bar fridges so we were able to stock up on drinks, cheese and other snacks at the nearby town of Sigatoka.
We went and checked out other resorts in the area during our visits and were very happy to come back to the Hideaway each time. The other hotels were too big and many of them were built like standard hotels with blocks of rooms on top of each other. What sets the Hideaway apart is the fact that the rooms are semi-detached buildings so that you have only one close neighbour. The buildings are separated by lovely gardens so that you have lots of privacy.
The only thing I would change about the Hideaway, and that applies to just about all hotels really, is that smoking should be banned, if not completely then at the very least around the pool area. There's nothing worse than having to move locations when sitting near the pool because of the selfish individuals who believe that normal people want to be exposed to their disgusting habit.
We would definitely recommend the Hideaway to anyone visiting the coral coast in Fiji.

Brilliant welcome from hotel staff 'Bula'. Clean and tidy accomodation. Nothing too much trouble day or night when requesting assistance from hotel staff. Large range of food day and night. Perfect beach, with coral and sand. Ideal for children, the reef is a mile from the shore. Paradise!

Our family with 2 children aged 9 & 7 have just returned from Fiji where 5 days of our trip was spent in a garden view bure at Hideaway.
Originally a litttle nervous about booking a Coral Coast resort, due to unflattering comments about the beaches, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed Hideaway. Granted the beaches in this part of Fiji are inferior to the outer island beaches, but they were in no way as awful as I was led to believe from some of the forums.
Some of the great points of our stay were:
1. The staff - so very friendly. (Although Fijians are renowned for friendliness, the resort we went to following Hideaway had unhelpful & rude staff, in stark comparison to Hideaway's warmth & friendliness.
2. The food - Excellent! Up to western standards in taste & presentation. (Just make sure you get the meal plan that includes food & drinks or you will pay through the nose, as per usual in the resorts.)
3. Kids Club - Not too big to be "kid-maxed out," and intimate enough that staff learned our kids names and always seemed happy to see them.
4. Activities - Always something interesting on, often at no charge.
5. Bures - Probably not as glamorous as other 5-star resorts, but certainly not shabby or run down either. Pleasant, very attractive & comfortable accomodation with pretty views of either garden or ocean. (Excellent value we thought!)
6. The atmosphere - Because Hideaway is a smaller resort, an intimate family atmsophere pervades. Everyone is relaxed & ready to assist or befriend.
Would we return? There are not many places in the world I say "yes" to, but this is one of them. Definitely yes.
Fosters Adelaide,
Australia - 14 April, 2008
We just returned from Fiji after staying for 6 days at the Hideaway Resort on the Coral Coast. We stayed one night in an ocean view "bure" which is similar to a 3 star motel room & very neat with a terrific view. If wanting to stay here at a lower cost these rooms are fine. Be warned that these rooms do not have the outdoor shower/bath.
We then stayed 5 nights in an ocean view villa "bure". The villa's are far more roomy than the normal bures & these do have the outdoor shower/bath as well as a double indoor shower. The room was very neat & tidy with an excellent view close to the beach.
The Fijian people that work at this resort really do "make" the place. They are very friendly & courteous & always eager to help in any way they can.
The food also was a highlight. It could be expensive if you don't get an all inclusive package but it is first rate & you would never go hungry there.
Another highlight was visiting the local school & village.

BULA!!!
If you are looking for a place to quietly laze around the pool then find somewhere else. But if you have kids with you or if you want the opportunity to learn more about the culture and history of the amazing Fijian people, then this would be perfect.
My wife and I have just returned from 9 nights at the Hideaway with our 10 year old daughter and rather than feeling like we were leaving to come home we almost felt we were leaving home and our new family.
The staff are the nicest people I have ever met on my travels (and I am a seasoned traveler). We are on a first name basis with many of them now, have learned about their families and visited them in their villages. My daughter plans to keep in contact with them now that we have returned home.
Children of all ages are entertained every day and I can not speak highly enough of the Kid's Club staff. Adi in particular deserves a special mention and has become so close to my daughter that they were both almost in tears when they said goodbye. She has also made great friends with Tuli, Kini and Naome from the Kid's Club.
The other activities crew, George, Tagi, Luke and Elijah, while mainly involved in the adult activities, have also become friends and were fantastic with us all.
The food was reasonably priced and an excellent choice available with changes to the menu daily. Breakfast was more than enough and special thanks to Fayaz who was always there with a smiling "Good Morning" and a willingness to create a special order breakfast for my daughter.
The only downside of the trip was that the room we were in could do with some refurbishment but I believe that is being undertaken.
Take the opportunity to get to know the staff if you visit. Also be sure to experience the culture and history available through organised tours and visits to the local villages and schools. You will surely get a new appreciation of the things that are truly important in life after you see how simply the Fijians live but how happy and community spirited they are.
In closing I give my recommendation...
I have traveled quite a bit and have always said that with so many amazing places to see in the world that I would never want to see the same place twice.....
however, the day after our return we are already looking at starting plans to return to the Hideaway next year.
A heartfelt VINAKA to the staff for our most amazing vacation yet.

Bula to everyone at the Hideaway! We recently spent a week at the Hideaway and had a fantastic time. The most memorable thing that we take away with us is friendliness. This was a great place to come with our kids (8 & 11) - they made so many friends and it felt such a safe environment. Plenty to do and plenty of ways to relax also. Also commiserations to the big-hearted Fijian rugby team after getting so far in the world cup. I will not forget a long but wonderful night at the bar watching you beat Wales to make it to the quarter finals.

We have just returned home after 2 amazing weeks in Fiji. We had a fantastic time at Hideaway Resort over Christmas. Karen, it was great to meet you. The food and service was the best there by far. Elijah was very entertaining and the kids loved him. The Sundance, aquagym, games, volleyball in the pool, the waterslide, the food, the cocktails, the beaming smiles, the laughter, happy hour, dancing and our memorable 4 and a half hour rainforest horse ride on Christmas Day were just a few of the things we loved about this place. We hope to return again next year. Vinaka, Lisa, Greg, Emma, Ben and Sarah P.S. What coup? Would never have known.

We came here on recommendation from our travel agent for our honeymoon. We had sooo much fun and the staff are SUPER friendly. The "political impasse" did not affect us once - and we were here for eleven days. I would recommend it and we hope to come back for our anniversary.
Janet and Joshua Malo,
USA - 15 December, 2006
Spent a wonderful 5 days at Hideaway. Staff were excellent and very friendly. Would recommend and encourage all to travel to Fiji - our group had no issues with the political situation. Just a huge Bula!! from the military personnel at the check points. Visit Fiji and Hideaway resort. I plan on returning. Had a great time with friends from Apex QLD.
Ken Maisey,
Australia - 15 December, 2006
We have travelled with our 2 children and have received a warm welcome everywhere we have been. We travelled to Suva and went through the museum next to Government House. The military were very friendly. Thank you to the Hideaway for their hospitality. It is our first overseas holiday and we all enjoyed it.
Michael, Davina, Hayden and Joshua Evans,

We have enjoyed a very beautiful, relaxing holiday at the Hideaway Resort with our extended family of 9. This is our second visit in less than 12 months.
Despite the unfortunate, and what seems like the very unneccessary international media attention in the current political circles of Fiji, the tourism areas are totally undisturbed and remain a carefree, stressfree relaxed environment in which to enjoy a very memorable holiday with your entire family. Room 303.
Tony, Beverly and Zachary Swiericzuk,
Australia - 15 December, 2006
Had no problems coming through the checkpoints. The military actually gave us a big smile and a big Bula! The issue is hurting the locals as there is less wok and income from tourism. Hideaway still offered excellent service despite the current political situation.
Lauren,
Australia - 14 December, 2006
Bulla, we had a wonderful time at the Hideaway Resort -unfortunately many tourists cancelled due to certain governments over reacting to the coup, and the Fiji people are suffering. Please do not cancel your travel plans to Fiji. We travelled to Nandi, Suva, Labassa and the Coral Coast all was very peacefull and relaxing. The Fijians are the worlds happiest people! The resort and Hideaway staff were wonderful and our Villa on the Beachfront was fantastic. I miss my hammock and cocktails already! Thank you to all staff who really looked after our group of 19. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Hideaway for making our holiday a wonderful experience.Hideaway is large enough to have every ammenity needed to enjoy a holiday, but small enough to make each guest feel special, plus a wonderful setting. Enjoyed our visit to the local village, explored Sigatoka by local bus (and taxi) most impressed with the Eco Park, made a quick visit to another resort where i had stayed many years ago and couldnt get back "home" to Hideaway quickly enough. Thanks again

Bula, I would like to thank Adam, Ranadi and all the staff that made my wedding day "A Dream Come True", It was actually more wonderful than what I ever expected. I had 60 guests at my wedding, most stayed at the hideaway but others chose to stay else where and 90% of my guest are coming back to fiji and will be staying at the hideaway. Which is good for me too as I am a travel agent. My wedding is the most talked about advent in my home town, and everyone wants to see the photo's and video as they are so beautiful. I have travelled to fiji many times and stayed at different resorts, I stayed at the hideaway with my family when I was 16 and then again more recent for my wedding, It still has its great saying "Arrive as a guest Leave as a friend" and it is so true. Thank you so much for all the effort and the extra special care we had for our wedding day and the time spent leading up to the big day. It was very professional.

We have just returned from Hideaway in Fiji and WOW we had an awesome time, the people, the culture and most of all Hideaway staff are all apart of memories we will have forever. We met so many amazing staff and my husband relaxed for the first time in 5 years, we are both journalists with busy schedules and a quick getaway at before Christmas was exactly what we needed, and Hideaway exceeded our expectations. A big Vinaka to Karen and Ranadi they were truly hospitable and made our stay extra special, we had a romantic dinner booked last minute and let me tell you, it was truly the most amazing dining experience I have ever had. Please pass on our thanks to our lovely waitress Sereima and all the activity staff. We will be back next year keep up the good work.

I write to you to express, on behalf of myself and my wife, to extend our deepest gratitude and thanks for the efforts of your staff during our recent stay at your resort.
My wife and I had arranged two weeks accommodation in Fiji, the first being at the another Resort where we were married, and the second week in particular, was to be at a different Resort on the Coral Coast. Having arrived at the other Resort on Sunday the 9th, we found the resort not to our liking. After a couple of phone calls to some local friends, we were booked into your resort for three nights (Mon 10 - Wed 12 th October, 2005.)
Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a drink, happy smiling staff, and to add more joy to an already pleasant arrival, we were upgraded to a beach front Villa at no extra charge along with being shown, in Fiji Time, to our room to continue our honeymoon in wonderful Fijian style. Another wonderful surprise was to return to our room after our first dinner to find a bottle of Champagne on ice awaiting us.
Your staff and resort are a credit to your business. The food, drinks, entertainment and most of all, your staff, were an absolute delight. We had the most wonderful time in the three days we spent there and will most certainly be returning in our future trips to this beautiful country.
Being a member of Victoria Police and a member of the Police Federation of Australia, I will be advising all my colleagues in Victoria and across Australia to stay at your resort in preference to others given the experience we had there.
On behalf of my wife and I, I would once again like to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for what was a most memorable and enjoyable stay at Hideaway Resort and we look forward to seeing you on our next trip over.
Kindest Regards and Vinaka Vakalevu,
Ross and Lorin RANDALL.

Bula to the outstanding Hideaway Staff. Just got home from a 10 day trip that was faboulous and will always be remembered. My friends and i had a wonderful time from the moment we stepped into the Resort. We particually enjoyed the relaxing by the pool, and then looked more forward to Happy Hour games and nightly entertainment. Through these games we made so many valuable friends with both staff and guests. We came at a great time of year, with the annual Billy Billy Races, (Congratulations guys/girls on your placings)well deserved. We had a wonderful day, we were well looked after at the Hideaway Tent and then the celebratations went right into the early morning. Loads of fun. Then we were also there for the winning of Miss Coral Coast, and again Congrats to the Hideaway. All these wonderful events made our trip more exciting and memorable. Just wanted to say a big Vinaka and i will be back again very soon. I have done alot of travelling and this is the most memorable by far. See you all soon.

Bula! Ni sa yadra! We stayed at 3 resorts when we recently went to Fiji and the No. 1 (Dua)resort was Hideaway. It far outweighed the other 2 resorts, which were also on the Coral Coast. The friendly atmosphere started from the moment we got out of the taxi at the front door. The genuinely happy smiling staff at the Hideaway Reort, made this an unforgetable holiday for us. The welcoming attitude we felt, every time we went to do anything at the resort was great. We swam at midnight in a well lit & beautiful pool, we were given Free cokes (drinks), for participating in a dance, the staff taught us to do an unbelievable dance called 'The Sundance', the staff had us, (generally- speaking) non dancers, up & dancing and participating in daily activities around the pool, the other guests were Very Friendly and Not at all 'cold fish', the Free coconut, both roasted and plain, given out around the poolside, was to die for, we can't speak highly enough of the staff, they were fantasic, the Free shows every night around 9pm to 10pm, were out of this world, especially 'Wasa' and his Talented Crew, the Compares on all these show nights, were terrific, I can't believe they could have a young athletic fijian staff member, getting me up to dance, in a dancing competition and he taught me about 10 different types of dances, from the Limbada to the Cha Cha, then there was the Cocktails, they were delicious, the Bure Accomodation, was comfortable & clean with beautiful Ocean Views, one of the most important things to us was the cost factor and what a pleasant surprise at the end of our stay, it was very reasonable, nothing was to much trouble for the very helpful staff, including climbing a tree to cut down a coconut for us, they, the staff did not expect any money from us, which made us feel at ease, instead of our hand always being in our pockets, like the other 2 resorts we stayed at and the food & service for breakfast, lunch & dinner was superb. What more can we say, except a Big Thankyou, to the Management and especially all the Staff at The Hideaway Resort Fiji, Ni sa moce and Vinaka vaka levu. We will never forget how wonderful and welcoming you made us feel. We have never had so much funa and laughter, especially at your staff's nightly floor shows. Thanks again and we look forward to recommending your resort and seeing you next year. Goodbye. We'll miss you all.

Bula! We have just returned from Hideaway today and we had the most wonderful holiday. We would especially like to complement your activities and entertainment staff. They are all very friendly and talented. The shows at night were fantastic, the bar games were a lot of fun and the atmosphere of the resort was exactly what we were looking for in a holiday. We especially liked Lukey (he played Bruce Springsteen in We are the World). He took and interest in our family and made us feel very welcome. He is an excellent addition to your staff. We will definitely recommend Hideaway to our friends. Vinaka Vakalevu.

Hideaway Resort is a fabulous place to stay. The gardens are magnificent, the frangipani bures with their outdoor bathroom were extremely comfortable and the food was sensational. But the best feature of the resort is the warm friendly atmosphere and the fabulous staff. The evening entertainment really made the holiday!

Ni sa bula to all the staff at the Hideaway,
What a wonderful week we had at your resort. The friendly hospitality was very overwhelming. A special VANAKA VAKALEVU to Joana for handling our accomodation mix up with great professionalism. We were greeted on arrival at the resort by very friendly staff that made us feel right at home. We had time to put our bags in our room and freshen up before dinner and the nights entertainment, and what a nights entertainment it was. What an atmosphere to arrive in to!
The entertainment did not stop day or night for the rest of the week. From the coconut tree climbing, kokoda cooking lessons, flower arranging, manager's cocktail party, nightly stage shows and the disco every night. You really didn't need to leave the resort to be engaged in great activities, the list was endless. The fantastic and fun loving staff made the activities that little more adventurous. A big VANAKA VAKALEVU to Elijah for organising fantastic entertainment with great enthusiasm.
With all these great activities to engage in, you surely worked up an appetite. Once again the staff did not disappoint in this department. The great meal plan that we purchased in our package was too good to be true, it was real value for money. It was amazing the vast menu we got to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food and beverage staff were truly amazing people. They were very hard working individuals that still had time to treat each visitor as a special friend. A big VANAKA VAKALEVU to Waisy and Milika as they made every meal time that little bit more special by their beautiful smiles and warm hospitality. We would also like to say a big VANAKA VAKALEVU to Donald and Mere.B for the yummy frozen illusions, they were delicious. Service for a smile.
Words can not express how sad we were to leave the beautiful friends behind that we made at the Hideaway. It was a pleasure to see the beauty of your islands and people. We are so happy to have had a fantastic holiday and also get the pleasure to learn and be part of such a warm and beautiful culture. The kava ceremonies were great. A very big VANAKA VAKALEVU to all of the beautiful staff. See you all next year.

We married at the Hideaway Aug 04 and could not fault one thing, I did everything as far as organizing it so our day would be what we wanted, which was hard having not seen it or been there in person....the resort staff did the most wonderful job between management, floristry, beauty, laundry and chefs, they exceeded our expectations and we will be back there as soon as we are able.
Hideaway is a wonderful place to relax and chill out, the food is to die for, we could not fault a thing on the menu, the cocktails are great and the entertainment superb!

Bula everyone! i first went to hideaway in july 2004 and loved it so much i conned my mum into taking us back july last year. me and my sister are coming back november this year, just the two of us and i can't wait! It is the best thing i can think of to relax after the hsc. it is the most fun i have ever had, the whole experience, the people, the place, the culture, is amazing. i have never met a friendlier group of people. on returning last year, we were greated very warmly and even welcomed "home" by some, it is like a second home to me. leaving is one of the most saddest experiences i have had, each time i leave i think of when i am next returning.i would definetly recommend it to anyone, it is a great place for family activities, or partying with friends. i am counting the days until we arrive, hopefully all the friendly staff we know are still there!

Bula.
Myself, friends and family, have all stayed at the Hideaway 3 times in the last 12 months, and we absolutely love the resort, in fact we will be there for new years. The Hideaway is a home away from home for us, and the staff have always been so caring and friendly. We have made life long friends at the Hideaway, and would never stay at another reort in Fiji. My sister met her first love at the resort, and we will all keep our memories of the Hideaway so close to our hearts. Vinaka:)

Bula Bula,
To all the staff and management, I myself cannot get enough of the place and as my brother wrote before, we have been here 7 times now, and plan to come back at the end of this year! Every time we walk through the door, we are welcomed back as one of the family, and that is one of the main reason why we keep coming back! If this is your first time to Fiji, and you are lucky enough to stay at the Hideaway, you will be coming back and back for years to come! All my regards to the staff!

Bula! Bula! I've been coming back to the Hideaway 6 times and this year it will be my 7th. The reason why I choose to come back is because of the friendly staff and excellent facilities. Any one, who hasn’t been to Fiji before, should stay here so they will always come back.

Hideaway is a perfect spot for families, couples or singles. My husband and I married there in Aug 04 and had a fantastic 7 night stay, Vinaka Vaka Levu!
From the extremely friendly, helpful and happy staff, to the great views from the room, the food which was delicious and the entertainment, everything was great!! we are definitely hoping to come back and visit soon.
Special thanks to Karen Sharp and Ranadi for all the trouble you went to making our WEdding Day everything we dreamed of plus more, it was exceptional and we would do it all again in a heartbeat.
The gardens are beautifully manicured and the evening torch lighting and beating of the lali just gives it that little bit of culture which was most enjoyable while lazing back in the hammock having a few cool drinks.
